When you start to see a little bit of growth on your plants, indicating they’ve recovered enough from their journey, feel free to start hardening them outside for 1-2 days, out of direct sunlight. Remove them from their plastic sleeve and plant them in full sun in your garden. Cuttings need ample water for the first week or so until roots are established in the soil.
If your weather does not allow for immediate planting, it is recommended to pot up your cutting into 4 inch pots, give your baby plant a dilute dose of fertilizer like Superthrive (be careful not to overdose!) to ease the transition and prevent transplant shock.
After a day out of direct light, plants can be placed under grow lights or a bright windowsill until your outdoor conditions are suitable.
For planting outside
It is recommended to take a couple days to “harden off” your cuttings after receiving in the mail, cuttings have been travelling in darkness for a few days and could be shocked if placed in direct sunlight right away.
Take your cutting out of the shipping container, place in shaded area out of indirect sunlight for a day or two before transitioning into the fields.
When planting, plant a few nodes deep for better tuber production. Our cuttings are all originally rooted with at least one node in the rooting medium.
*It is not recommended to peel off the root riot cube medium from your cutting when planting, damage to the plant’s roots can occur even when being very careful. The cutting can suffer set back and in severe cases are not able to recover. Proceed with caution. *
Cuttings will need to be watered more often than tubers, so make sure to water accordingly and watch for signs of dehydration.
